Are You Holding IOUs?
An IOU (I owe you) may be hard to let go. When we think people owe us respect, love, loyalty, or honor, it very well may be true. But, if we do not receive what is due us, we need to forgive, and tear up the IOUs.
We are not instructed to forgive after someone forgives us, but before. Why? So we can be forgiven. Forgiving does not mean the person was justified in what they did, only that we have let it go so it no longer torments our thought process.
Unforgiveness only hurts us. It can hinder our prayer life.
“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:24-26 NKJV
