Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27
The Greek word for voice is “phone,” a sound or a tone. A mark of a true disciple is that they hear God and follow Him.
To hear the Lord’s voice, you need to be in a listening mode. Looking at what a kindergarten teacher does to get her students to listen provides steps we should follow. She first says to the students, “1-2-3 eyes on me.” She wants to get their attention, and then she instructs them that they need to put their listening ears on.
To hear the Lord’s voice, we need to give Him our undivided attention and focus; we need to listen and not speak; and finally, wait for that still small voice.
Samuel the great prophet learned to hear and obey the Lord’s voice even though He did not understand who was calling him at first,”Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.” 1 Samuel 3:10
