The astounding statement by God in the Bible stopped me in my tracks one day, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” Romans 9:13
Have you been surprised by what is in the Bible?
My mother always used to say, “we do not hate in this family. Do not use the word hate.”
Then I saw in the Bible, that God hated. My family values were being challenged.
Are we to hate? Aren’t we commanded to love?
However, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Mathew 6:24
So what should we hate? Should we not hate what the Lord hates?
“These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
Proverbs 6:16-19
Oh, Lord keep me the apple of your eye, so I may not transgress against you.
“Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand,
O You who save those who trust in You
From those who rise up against them.
Keep me as the apple of Your eye;
Hide me under the shadow of Your wings,
From the wicked who oppress me,
From my deadly enemies who surround me.”
Psalm 17:7-9
