God understands abandonment.  His people have abandoned Him, turned and went their own way.

As we take our focus off our selves we see we are not alone.  God says, “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”  Deut 31:6
