How do you know if you are a man or a woman of God?  

Elijah knew his God and trusted Him to back him up, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!” 2 Kings 1:12a

Timothy was called a man of God, and He was instructed to “Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called…” 1 Timothy 6:11

If you are walking with God (pursuing righteousness and godliness), have a relationship with Him (love Him with your whole heart, soul, and mind),  and are laying down your life daily to Him (making God first and foremost in your life).   You are a man or woman of God, and God will back you up as you serve Him and give glory to Him.   Remember, God will not allow His glory to go to another (Isaiah 42:8).
