A Form of godliness?

A Form of godliness?

There is an interesting verse in scripture, “having a form of godliness but denying its power…” (II Timothy 3:5  NKJV)  This is in reference to the times that we live in today.

It makes me think of the church in Acts. There was no lack of power there. God pours out His Spirit, and in chapter 2:43, we see many wonders and signs done through the apostles. Chapter 3, a lame man is healed and walks, Ananias and Sapphira were judged by God immediately, and we see that persecution followed as the power of God was demonstrated. We see Peter freed from prison (chapter 12), a sorcerer was struck blind (chapter 13), Paul was stoned and left for dead until the disciples surrounded him and he got up (chapter 14) and so much power was displayed.

If the church today is not causing evil to be upset because of their love, sharing the saving power of Jesus, and demonstration of the power of God, then it is lukewarm. We as part of the church should be careful not to compare ourselves with others, but with the true plum line, Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold not hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” Revelation 3:15,16  NKJV

Pray for heat!
