“When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
“He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” Mathew 8:16-17
Jesus’ work on the cross defeated Satan and his works, and Jesus continues to do this work today. Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
Many who have accepted Christ choose to ignore the work of the cross because of the terminology used.
The word demon-possessed used here is the Greek word daimonizomai. Strongs concordance identifies that the meaning of this word is “to be under the power of demons”, not possessed. Demons cannot possess a true Christian.
With all the sicknesses, irrational behavior and lawlessness in our nation today, can you agree that many may be under the power of demons?
Pray
Lord, your word says, “Surely He has borne our griefs (holi – sicknesses)
And carried our sorrows (makobe – pain); Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions (pesa – rebellion), He was bruised (daka – crush) for our iniquities (aon – perversity, evil, sin); The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53″4-5.
Lord, I claim today that you shed your blood for me through the work cross, and by your stripes, I am healed.” Thank you, Jesus.
