Questions after a loss

Questions after a loss

Why would God take my loved one? God is not the author of death, God gave His son to break the power of death, “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death–that is, the devil–” Hebrews 2:14

The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy; Jesus comes to give life and give it more abundantly (John 10:10). We live in a fallen world and as a result, the sovereign will of God is overridden by the commanded will of God. It is God’s sovereign will that we live life to the fullest. However, the commanded will of God has been broken by man.

I was praying for my loved one to live, why did God not answer my prayer? God always answers prayers. However, it might not be as we expect. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15. The key is the statement, “according to His will.” Example – My husband was killed in the Navy Yard shooting, murdered. Was this God’s commanded will? No, God abhors murder. However, it was in God’s sovereign will. If it was not His sovereign will, God would have stopped my husband’s death. I know what you are thinking, how is this good. As a result of my husband’s death, almost everyone in my family has accepted Christ and will have eternal salvation. God looks at the eternal, not the temporal. Everything that God does is good.
