“And Esau said to his father, “Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless
God does not have only one blessing…
“He opened His mouth and taught them…” Mathew 5:1
What followed was a lesson on blessings, not curses. Why did they need a lesson on blessings? Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to teach them
Jesus wanted a change in the whole person.
Blessed are those who…..
Know they need God, cries out, are humble, desire Him and His ways above all else, gives mercy, gets to the heart of the matter, has peace in all situations, and stands up for what God stands for (Mathew 5). Notice the progression in character and blessings, it reflects the growth of the Christian life.
“For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.” Hebrews 12:17. God knew Esau’s heart and it was seeking the blessing verses true repentance.
We need to have repentant hearts. God will not reject us. He wants to heal the whole person and make us a reflection of Our Father. “Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.” (Mathew 3:8)
“And God is able to bless you abundantly…” 2 Cor 9:8 (NIV)
