Mental torment is extreme pain or anguish to the mind. A traumatic event can open the door to mental torment. A person may have visions of the event over and over; a feeling of no self-worth; depression or hopelessness. All these may trigger thoughts of suicide, cutting or shutting off the world.
You may feel as if no one understands, Jesus does.
Jesus knowing that He was going to have to go to the cross to die for our sins, “… He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 4And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.” Luke 22:41-44. Severe mental distress caused Jesus to sweat blood.
Mental torment may make you feel as if the Lord has left you, God says otherwise, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? [shall] tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” Romans 8:35
You can cry out to the Lord. He hears and acts on your behalf, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.” Psalm 34:17
