Depression

The Bible mentions several spirits that may be the cause of depression: Spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:3 KJV), despair (Isaiah 61:3 (NIV), and Spirit of fainting (Isaiah 61:3 (NASB)).

Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be delivered,

“And it shall come to pass
That whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Shall be saved.” Joel 2:32

Attacks of depression are to introduce pessimism. The person entertains negative thoughts of what could happen when things are going wrong.

The solution is “…The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3 NKJV. When you are praising the Lord, there is no room for negative thinking.

Depression requires a person to walk out the deliverance from depression. Get rid of negative thoughts, put on the helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6).

“But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.” 1 Thess 5:8

Hope protects the mind. Salvation is what Jesus has done for us on the cross. He is our hope.

Hebrews 6:18-20 talks about hope as the anchor of our soul. An anchor fastens us to something stable, a rock, Jesus.

Remember, “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12
