God is Serious about Truth
I am so thankful that God gives me opportunity to repent when I am not obedient to His word. As we look into the history of the early church we see immediate judgment on Ananias and Sapphira in their sin of deception. We can read the entire account in Acts 5.
They agreed together as husband and wife to lie and deceive the brothers and sisters about the amount of their giving. It was not required of them to give all, but they implied that they did. So, was this an act of inferiority? Did they want people to think well of them to the point of lying? Or were they just greedy?
We see that God struck them dead on the spot as they each lied separately. But, they were given a chance at that moment to change their story, but they made a decision to deceive.
“So great fear came upon all the church and upon all who heard these things.” Acts 5:11 NKJV
The scripture implies that Ananias and Sapphira were believers in Jesus, as stated in Acts 4:32, “Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.”
