What Now?

When we read directions, there is always a next step until we reach the goal of a completed project. What is the next step after we confess our sins, believe in Jesus, and are baptized? Is the goal just to have fire insurance? If that were the case God could call us home to heaven right then, as if we have come to the finish line.

Jesus told us what to do. He said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35) Notice how many times Jesus says we, His disciples, should love one another.

What does it look like to love each other like Christ loved us? What a testimony the world would have if those who hold up all the words of Jesus in their lives loved as He did! That sounds like an achievement that may take the rest of our lives, which involves letting His light shine through us so others can see.
