Do thoughts of death constitute mental instability?
“Peter said unto Him, Lord, why can’t I follow thee now?” John 13:37
Then we see Paul proclaiming to the Philippians, “For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.” Philippians 1:23
Like Peter and Paul, there are seasons in our life where we desire to depart this world. We may have a concern about what the future holds or are walking through something that is pressuring us on all sides.
The Bible tells us that we are going to have tribulations in this world (2 Tim 3:12), we must not fear (Isaiah 41:10), and we must endure (Mathew 24:13).
“Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you. And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith…..” Philippians 1:24- 26 NKJV
“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:14 NKJV
However, if thoughts of death persist, seek help, “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16 NKJV
Remember, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10
