What is Your Cross?
What did Jesus really mean when He said to take up our cross and follow me? I think many may have the wrong idea about the cross to which He was referring. Some may think their cross consists of a fingernail breaking. I am being ridiculous to make a point.
Jesus meant for us to put Him first in our lives, whether it meant losing our job and livelihood because we could not go along with dishonesty, or our family disowning us because we believe in Jesus. He has asked us to go to death for Him, just as He did for us so that we may be free of the bondage He overcame on the cross and through His resurrection.
“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life [in Christ] will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” Matthew 10:38,39 NKJV
Jesus did not ask us just to believe in Him, but repent, be baptized and follow Him.
“You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?” James 2:19,20 NKJV
Jesus wants our works to be fulfilling His destiny in our lives. That may require more than cutting the church grass.
