In Psalm 45:6-7, we see a striking statement: God anointed Jesus Christ with oil of joy; Jesus’ character set Him apart, and as a result He received the Oil of Joy more than His companions. 

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.   You love righteousness and hate wickedness;  therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”  Psalm 45:7. 

Yet in Isaiah 53:3, Isaiah described Jesus as a man of sorrows.   So which is it?   

Just as we have sorrow at the wickedness in this world, we can now have joy in the knowledge of being reunited with Jesus.   

“Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”  Hebrews 12:2
