When someone dies! Not just anyone, when someone you love dies!
What are you to do? Your heart and mind cannot comprehend what truly has happened. A host of emotions invade, and people come to try to bring comfort, but to no avail. Deep sorrow overcomes the days and nights. And you may feel no one understands. Maybe this is a good things, afterall then they would be where you are.
How can life go on? People go to work, they eat and laugh as if nothing has occurred.
Life has stopped for the one who has lost a loved one.
Marth and Mary understood this as they went to Jesus. “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” John 11:21, 34
If you, Lord, had been here, if my prayer had been answered, if the doctor could have done something.
We begin to play the what if game that vexes our minds. “If you had been here’.
No earthly heart can understand what you are walking through. However, Jesus understands. ‘Jesus wept’ John 11:35. Jesus knows. During this time of mourning, be still and know that He is God.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
