“Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts, and put before them that which causes them to stumble into iniquity.” Ezekiel 14:3
The Lord wants your heart. At eighteen, I went into the USMC because I wanted to serve my country. Listen and obey was our mantra. Obedience was drilled into us. When I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior, it was not hard to be obedient; it was second nature. However, this is not enough for God, He wants our hearts, not just service.
Idols can steal our hearts away from God. My idol was my country. The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). I was deceived by what I thought was a good thing. The Lord desires to seize our hearts and be first in our lives. Ask God today to show you if there are any idols you have raised up in your heart.
The remedy is repentance. “Thus says the Lord God: “Repent, turn away from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations.” Ezekiel 14:6
Confess what the Lord is showing you as a sin and turn from it toward God. Give God your whole heart today.
