If statements in the Bible might make any Christian stop and say, What? Are you kidding me?
Two days had passed since Jesus had entered Jerusalem on a donkey. By now, the disciples should not have been surprised by anything. After all, they had seen many signs and wonders performed by Jesus. And they had seen Him fulfil prophecy (Psalm 118:25-26). Now, their Messiah had cursed a fig tree and “proclaims to them. “If you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, Be removed and be cast into the sea, It will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believe, you will receive.” Mathew 21:21-22
On a fig tree, the fruit is first formed, and then the leaves appear. The tree was not fruitful. We are to be fruitful first and have faith.
“He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper” (Psalm 1:3).
If we do not doubt, all things are possible with Christ Jesus!
