Thanksgiving

“We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks! For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.” Psalm 75:1

The echo of the words of the first colonist ring in my ear as they praised our Lord, Gov. William Bradford wrote in 1623, “Instead of famine now God gave them plenty, and the face of things was changed, to the rejoicing of the hearts of many, for which they blessed God.” The pilgrims had lost over 50% of their families and loved ones. Their hearts still rejoiced in what they had.

The next two years (1623 and 1624) proved even more difficult for the colonist when there was a drought. The days that led up to thanksgiving were coupled with fasting and they continued to give thanks to God. Their focus was on the one who blessed them so richly.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing,  in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thess 5:16-18

May you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving!
